How We Met… and then some…

We both worked at Davidson College - Leslie in the Dean of Students Office and Renny as the Head Men’s Cross Country & Track and Field Coach. One night Leslie got a call from a coach (that would be Renny) to let someone in the dean’s office know that one of his athletes had passed out at practice and was in the hospital. It was already late at night, so we decided to meet in the ER early the next morning.

We spent most of the morning in the student’s hospital room chatting about gentrification in NYC and other interesting topics that should have tipped us off to the fact that we’d probably be spending a lot more time together.

At some point while in the hospital we realized that the student hadn’t had anything to eat. Leslie offered to go out and grab him some breakfast, and asked Renny if he wanted anything from Starbucks. Renny asked for a latte. [Leslie:  A LATTE?!?!?!?! Who asks a complete stranger to buy them a latte the first time they meet? Renny: A man who appreciates the finer things in life. Leslie: Like me!]

Since then we’ve had many wonderful adventures together. We have vacationed in Budapest in what felt like the coldest weather ever; road tripped through California and had our car broken into in San Francisco; went to Disney with Leslie’s nieces (a particular feat for Renny); fly fished in rivers out east and west (a particular feat for Leslie); enjoyed captivating sunrises and sunsets over some of the most beautiful landscapes in the US; discovered quaint coffee shops, delicious restaurants, and charming mom-and-pop shops everywhere we’ve traveled, and enjoyed concerts and live theater that suits both of our tastes. One thing that is certain is that through all of these wonderful times,  and even the temporary moments of stress (ok, San Francisco was a full half-day of stress), we have always had fun and enjoyed being in each other’s company.

We look forward to experiencing and managing all that’s ahead together!
